Code No. P0942: Electric oil pump status fault

cautionWhen you stop the vehicle while code No. P0942 is set and the AS&G is activated, the engine will also be stopped automatically. However, the CVT-ECU requests the engine to restart immediately.

Diagnosis function
The CVT-ECU monitors how the electric oil pump works.

JUDGEMENT CRITERIA
This diagnosis code will be set when any of the following conditions is satisfied:
  • The state signal for the electric oil pump remains less than 46% for at least one second.
  • The state signal for the electric oil pump remains more than 54% for at least one second.
noteWhile the electric oil pump is activated, the normal state signal which the CVT-ECU receives is approximately 50%.
This diagnosis code will be set when any of the following conditions is satisfied with the electric oil pump deactivated:
  • The state signal for the electric oil pump remains less than 26% for at least one second.
  • The state signal for the electric oil pump remains more than 34% for at least one second.
noteWhile the electric oil pump is deactivated, the normal state signal which the CVT-ECU receives is approximately 30%.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Electric oil pump relay fails
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors
  • Malfunction of the DC-DC converter
  • Electric oil pump fails
  • The CVT-ECU is defective.

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. Check the electric oil pump relay.
Refer to .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Replace the electric oil pump relay.

STEP 2. Measure the voltage at the electric oil pump relay connector (No.3 terminal).
(1) Remove the electric oil pump relay, and measure at the relay box side.
(2) Measure the voltage between the relay box (terminal No. 3) and body earth.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
OK: Battery voltage
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check the power supply lines between the electric oil pump relay connector and the DC/DC converter connector for open circuit or short to earth.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 4. Erase the diagnosis code, and then check whether the symptom occurs again.
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the DC/DC converter.

STEP 5. Check the earth line between the electric oil pump relay connector and body earth for open circuit.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 6. Check the OPRL line between the electric oil pump relay connector and the CVT-ECU connector for open circuit or short to earth.
Check the continuity between the electric oil pump relay connector (terminal No. 2) and the CVT-ECU connector (OPRL terminal).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 7. Check the power supply lines between the electric oil pump relay connector and the electric oil pump connector for open circuit or short to earth.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 8.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 8. Check the earth line between the electric oil pump connector and body earth for open circuit.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 9.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 9. Measure the voltage at the electric oil pump connector (EOPI terminal).
(1) Disconnect the electric oil pump connector and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Measure the voltage between the electric oil pump connector (EOPI terminal) and body earth.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
OK: Battery voltage
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 11.
Go to Step 10.

STEP 10. Check the EOPI line between the electric oil pump connector and the CVT-ECU connector for open circuit or short to earth.
Is the check result normal?
Replace the CVT-ECU.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 11. Measure the voltage at the CVT-ECU connector (EOPO terminal).

(1) Disconnect the electric oil pump connector and connect the special tool test harness (MB991658) as shown.
(2) Disconnect the CVT-ECU connector, and measure the voltage between EOPO terminal and body earth at the wiring harness side.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
OK: Battery voltage
Is the check result normal?
