Code No. P0848: Primary pressure sensor fails (high input)

Diagnosis function
The CVT-ECU determines that the system fails when the primary pressure sensor output voltage is higher than a predetermined value.

JUDGEMENT CRITERIA
All the conditions listed below remain for 5 seconds.
  • The CVT oil temperature sensor detects a temperature of -20°C or more
  • The target primary pressure is 5.7 MPa or less
  • The primary pressure sensor output voltage is 4.7 V or more

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Valve body assembly fails (Faulty primary pressure sensor)
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors
  • The CVT-ECU is defective.

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. Measure the voltage at the CVT-ECU connector (PRPS terminal).
(1) Measure the CVT-ECU connector side by backprobing.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Measure the voltage between the CVT-ECU connector (terminal PRPS) and the body earth.
Does the voltage measure approximately 4.7 V or more?
Go to Step 2.
NO : Go to Step 4.

STEP 2. Check the PRPS line between the CVT assembly connector and the CVT-ECU connector for short to earth.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 3. Check the signal lines (primary pressure sensor lines) between the CVT assembly connector and the valve body wiring harness connector for short to earth.
Refer to .
Is the check result normal?
Replace the valve body assembly (Refer to ).
Replace the valve body wiring harness (Refer to ).

STEP 4. Measure the voltage at the CVT-ECU connector (PRPS terminal).
(1) Drive the vehicle until the engine is warmed up.
(2) Measure the CVT-ECU connector side by backprobing.
(3) Selector lever position: N
(4) Engine: Idling
(5) Measure the voltage between the CVT-ECU connector (terminal PRPS) and the body earth.
OK: Approx. 0.90 - 0.92 V
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Replace the valve body assembly (Refer to ).

STEP 5. Erase the diagnosis code, and then check whether the symptom occurs again.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Replace the CVT-ECU.
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
