ADJUSTMENT

  1. Temporarily tighten the axle nut to 36 ft. lbs. (48 Nm), then turn the drum back and forth alternately several times to properly seat the bearing and ascertain bearing stability.
  2. Turn back nut 18 to 14 turn in order to obtain correct starting torque. Measure the starting force as shown.

    WARNING
    Starting force when measured at the hub bolt should be 1.87–3.20 lbs. (2.5–4 Nm) Make sure there is no free-play in the bearing.

  3. Bend lockwasher.
  4. After installing O-ring to drum cap, install cap to brake drum by lightly tapping with plastic hammer.

    WARNING
    Do not use a steel hammer on the drum cap and be sure to replace the old O-ring with a new one.
