REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Apply the parking brake and loosen (but do not remove) the rear wheel nuts.
  2. Raise the vehicle, support it with jackstands. Release the parking brake and remove the wheel and tire.
  3. Remove the brake drum cap from the drum.
  4. Flatten the lockwasher and loosen the axle nut, then remove the nut, washer and the outer bearing. Remove the brake drum.

  5. Pry up the spacer with a prybar and remove the spacer and inner bearing inner race. Use a puller if necessary.
  6. Remove the outer race of inner bearing from drum. Remove the oil seal at this time.
  7. Remove the outer race of outer bearing from drum.

    Clean the removed parts and check them for wear, damage and corrosion. If faulty, repair or replace

    To install:

  8. Press the outer race of inner bearing into drum using a Taper Roller Bearing Installer (925220000), or its equivalent, and a press.
  9. Apply sufficient grease to the oil seal lip. Install the oil seal into drum until its outer end is flush with the drum surface.
  10. Press the outer race of outer bearing into drum using Taper Roller Bearing Installer (921130000), or its equivalent, and a press.
  11. Apply approximately 14 oz (4g) of grease to the inner bearing and 11 oz (3g) to the outer bearing. Fill the boss of drum with approximately 1.06 oz (30g) of grease.
  12. Install the spacer and inner race of inner bearing onto the spindle of trailing arm.

    WARNING
    Stepped surface of the spacer must be faced toward the bearing.

  13. Install the drum, inner race of outer bearing, washer, lockwasher and the axle nut in this order onto the spindle.

    NOTE: Make sure the old lockwasher is replaced with a new one.

  14. Install the wheel and lower the vehicle and tighten the lock nuts.
