SOLENOID REPLACEMENT

NOTE: This procedure is only applicable to the direct drive starter.

  1. With the starter removed from the car as outlined earlier, remove the nut underneath the solenoid terminal and disconnect the wires from the starter.

  2. Remove the two screws which hold the solenoid to the starter on models up to 1982. On later models, remove the two nuts.

    NOTE: It may be necessary to use an impact driver to remove the two screws.

  3. Lift the rear of the solenoid up and then pull it toward the rear in order to separate it from the starter.

    To install:

  4. Be sure to engage the hook on the end of the solenoid with the starter drive lever.
  5. Install the solenoid securing fasteners.
