NOTE: This procedure is only applicable to the direct drive
starter.
- With the starter removed from the car as outlined earlier, remove the nut
underneath the solenoid terminal and disconnect the wires from the starter.

- Remove the two screws which hold the solenoid to the starter on models up
to 1982. On later models, remove the two nuts.
NOTE: It may be necessary to use an impact driver to remove
the two screws.
- Lift the rear of the solenoid up and then pull it toward the rear in order
to separate it from the starter.
To install:
- Be sure to engage the hook on the end of the solenoid with the starter drive
lever.
- Install the solenoid securing fasteners.
