REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

ff–1 and 1300G Models

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
2. Pull the two radio knobs off their shafts and remove the nuts from the shafts.
3. Unfasten the two bezel retaining screws and remove the radio bezel.
4. Remove the lower heater duct cover and the ash tray, then unfasten the radio securing screw which is located underneath them.
5. Disconnect the radio power, speaker, and antenna leads.
6. Pull the radio out of the dash.
7. Installation is the reverse of removal.

1971–73 GL and DL Models

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
2. Remove the center panel of the instrument panel:
   1. Removing the radio installing nut.
   2. Remove the bolt which holds the center panel to the instrument panel. It can be reached by removing the ash tray.
   3. Remove the lighting switch and the wiper switch knobs by loosening the screw and removing the dress nut.
   4. Remove the heater control knobs by loosening the screws.
   5. Remove the hanger spring of the speedometer cable.
   6. Disconnect the speedometer cable from the back side of the instrument cluster.
   7. Disconnect the junction block from the back side of the instrument cluster.
   8. Disconnect the wiring harness from the cigar lighter. Remove the center panel from the instrument panel.
3. Remove the speaker grille by loosening the two attaching screws.
4. Pull out the feed cord from the radio plug.
5. Loosen the radio mounting bolt.
6. Loosen the radio mounting screws.
7. Disconnect the radio wiring and remove the radio.
8. Reverse the procedure to install the unit.

1974–76 Models

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

   NOTE: Steps 2 and 3 do not apply to 1976 models.

2. Use a Phillips screwdriver with a short shank to unfasten the screws holding the speaker grille down.
3. Remove the grille.
4. Disengage the speaker lead from the radio connector.
5. Remove the instrument cluster bezel screws at the radio end.
6. Remove its screws and lift out the console, if so equipped.
7. Pull the knob off the fresh air lever and unfasten the two securing screws at either end.
8. Remove the center outlet grille.
9. Pull both knobs off the radio shafts.
10. Remove the ash tray.
11. Pull the knobs off the heater controls.
12. Remove the nuts from the radio control shafts.
13. Loosen the screws which secure the radio surround panel and remove the panel.
14. Remove the radio bracket screws.
15. Disconnect the radio leads and pull the radio out of the dash.

    To install:

16. Install the radio leads onto the radio and place the unit in the dash.
17. Install the radio bracket screws and tighten securely.
18. Install the cover panel and tighten the retaining screws.
19. Install the radio control shaft nuts.
20. Install the heater control knobs, the radio control knobs and the ash tray.
21. Install the center outlet grille and tighten the two retaining screws.
22. Install the fresh air lever knob.
23. Install the console.
24. Install the instrument cluster bezel.
25. Install the speaker leads to the radio connector.
26. Install the speaker grille.
27. Connect the negative battery cable.

1977–84 Models

1. Disconnect the (-) battery cable.

2. Remove the center console assembly by removing the mounting screws.
3. Disconnect the wire harness and antenna cable.
4. Pull off the radio control knobs.
5. Remove the radio mounting nuts from the control stems.
6. Remove the radio mounting screw from the back of the radio.
7. Lift out the radio.
8. Installation is the reverse of removal.
