Inspect the upper ball joint with the vehicle raised and supported with jackstands,
as follows:
- Separate the ball stud from the steering knuckle.
- Move the stud with your finger.
- If there is excessive play present, replace the lower ball joint.
- Check the ball joint boots for tears or other damage. Replace the boots,
if they are damaged.
- Repack with a long lasting chassis grease, if the boots are being replaced.
- Apply 0.28–0.35 oz. (8–10g) of grease to the stud neck, 0.11
oz. (3g) to the boot interior, and a small amount of grease to the inner lip
of the boot.
