Disc Brake Calipers

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Raise and support the vehicle with jackstands. Remove the front wheels.
  2. Remove the brake hose from the caliper body and plug the hose to prevent the entrance of dirt or moisture.
  3. Remove the handbrake cable and brake pads.

  4. Remove the caliper assembly by pulling it out of the support. Do not remove the guide pin unless it damaged.

    To install:

  5. Rotate the piston until the notch at the head of the piston is vertical.
  6. Install the handbrake cable and brake pads.
  7. Install the caliper assembly on the support and tighten the support bolt.
  8. Fit the caliper into the caliper housing and install the mouting bolts/lock pins. Tighten the mounting bolts on 1975–79 models to 36–50 ft. lbs. (48–67 Nm). Tighten the lock pins to 33–54 ft. lbs. (44–73 Nm) on 1980–82 models and 12–17 ft. lbs. (16–23 Nm) on 1983–84 models.
  9. Connect the brake hose and tighten the fitting.
  10. Bleed the brake system.
  11. Install the wheels and lower the vehicle.
  12. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder.
