NOTE: The coil does not have to be removed from the vehicle
to perform this test.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Tag, then remove each spark plug wire from the ignition coil.
Using a multimeter, check the resistance between spark plug wire connections
No. 1 and No. 2. Then check the resistance between spark plug connections
No. 3 and No. 4. If the resistance between the connections is between 0.59–0.79
ohms, the coil is within specification. If the resistance is below this amount,
replace it.
Using a multimeter, check the resistance between wire harness connections
No. 1 and No. 2. Then check the resistance between wire harness connections
No. 2 and No. 3. If the resistance between the connections is between 17–24
kilo-ohms, the coil is within specification. If the resistance is below this
amount, replace it.
