Master Cylinder

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Siphon the brake fluid out of the master cylinder reservoir.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the brake fluid warning light.

  4. Disconnect and cap the brake pipes from the master cylinder.
  5. Remove the two master cylinder mounting nuts.
  6. Remove the master cylinder from the mounting studs.

    To install:

  7. If a new master cylinder is being installed, it must be bench bled first. Refer to the bleeding procedure later in this section.
  8. Install the master cylinder on the mounting studs and tighten the mounting nuts to 7–13 ft. lbs. (10–18 Nm).
  9. Connect the brake pipes to the master cylinder and tighten the fittings to 7–13 ft. lbs. (10–18 Nm).
  10. Connect the electrical connector to the brake fluid warning switch.
  11. Refill the master cylinder.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable.
  13. Bleed the brake system, as described later in this section.
