REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Impreza and Legacy

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Negative battery cable
   • Axle nut
   • Sway bar bracket
   • Lower control arm-to-rear housing bolt and nut
   • Trailing link assembly-to-rear housing bolt and nut
   • Halfshaft-to-differential roll pin
   • Halfshaft from the differential
   • axleshaft from the hub using puller 92707000

   To install:

3. Install or connect the following:
   • Axleshaft into the hub
   • Axleshaft into place using installer 922431000 and adapter 927390000
   • New axle nut and temporarily tighten the nut
4. Align the axleshaft-to-differential roll pin holes and slide the axleshaft onto the splines. Install a new roll pin.
5. Install or connect the following:
   • Trailing link assembly to the rear housing
   • Trailing link bolt and new nut and tighten to 94 ft. lbs. (127 Nm)
   • Lower control arm to the rear housing
   • Bolt and new nut and torque them to 116 ft. lbs. (157 Nm)
   • Sway bar bracket
6. Torque the new axle nut to 152 ft. lbs. (206 Nm).
7. Install or connect the following:
   • Wheel
   • Negative battery cable

SVX

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Negative battery cable
   • Tire and wheel assembly
   • Axle nut
3. Move the parking brake lever forward.
4. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Rear exhaust pipe
   • Sway bar link
   • Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) sensor clamp and parking brake cable bracket from the trailing link
   • Parking brake cable from the floor
   • Brake hose from the strut
   • Trailing link-to-knuckle through-bolt and nut
   • Lateral link-to-knuckle through-bolt and nut
   • Axleshaft from the differential carrier using a half shaft remover, 28099PA100
   • Axleshaft from the rear bearing assembly

   To install:

5. Install or connect the following:
   • New circlip on the inboard end of the axleshaft
   • Outer joint through the hub splines
6. Using a axleshaft installer, pull the shaft into the hub completely.
7. Install or connect the following:
   • Inboard joint into the differential carrier
8. Once the splines are lined up the inner joint can be seated fully by pushing in on the knuckle.
9. Line up the lateral links and install the through-bolt and nut and tighten to 86 ft. lbs. (118 Nm).
10. Line up the trailing link and install the through-bolt and nut and tighten to 90 ft. lbs. (123 Nm).
11. Install or connect the following:
    • Brake hose bracket to the strut and tighten the mounting bolt
    • Parking brake cable bracket to the floor
    • ABS sensor clamp and parking brake cable bracket to the trailing link
    • Sway bar link
    • Rear exhaust pipe
    • Axle nut and tighten to 138 ft. lbs. (186 Nm)
    • Tire and wheel assembly
    • Negative battery cable
12. Check the front end alignment and adjust as necessary.
