- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning
of this section.
- Remove the wheels.
- Remove the brake drum.
- Remove both return springs.
- Remove both retaining clips.
- Disconnect the brake shoes from the adjuster side first, then the wheel
cylinder side, and pull them off the backing plate.
- If equipped with rear drum parking brakes, unfasten the parking brake cable
from the parking lever on the trailing brake shoe.
To install:
- Apply brake grease to the backing plate where the brake shoes contact it.
- Install the brake shoes to the wheel cylinder, then to the adjuster. Secure
in place with the 2 pins and retaining clips.
- Assemble the return springs. The upper spring is thinner.
- Install the drum and adjust the brake shoes.
- Install the wheels.
