
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning
of this section.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
- Negative battery cable
- Front Oxygen (O2S) sensor electrical connector
- Front under cover, if equipped
- Rear O2S electrical connector, on California vehicles
- Rear O2S sensor electrical connector on all vehicles, except California
- Y-pipe-to-rear pipe mounting nuts and separate the Y-pipe from the rear
pipe
- Bolts that secure the front Y-pipe to the cylinder head
- Y-pipe from the hanger bracket
- Front exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter and discard the gaskets
To install:
- Clean all gasket surfaces completely.
- Install or connect the following:
- New gaskets
- Front catalytic converter to front exhaust pipe. Tighten the bolts to
18.8-26 ft. lbs. (25-35 Nm).
- Y-pipe. Temporarily tighten the bolt which holds the center exhaust
pipe to the hanger bracket.
- Y-pipe, to the cylinder head. Tighten the retainers to 18.8-26 ft. lbs.
(25-35 Nm).
- Y-pipe to the rear pipe. Tighten the retainers to 9.4-16.6 ft. lbs.
(13-23 Nm).
- Tighten the center exhaust pipe to hanger bracket bolt to 22.4-29.6 ft.
lbs. (30-40 Nm).
- Rear O2S sensor electrical connector, on all except California models
- Rear O2S sensor electrical connector, on California models
- Front O2S sensor electrical connector
- Front under cover, if equipped
- Negative battery cable
- Start the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
