Exhaust Manifold/Front Exhaust Pipe

Removal & Installation

2.0L DOHC Engine and 2.5L DOHC Engine

To Remove:

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
2. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Ground cable from battery
   • Front oxygen sensor
   • Under cover
   • Lower exhaust manifold cover (RH)
   • Lower and upper exhaust manifold covers (LH)
   • Front exhaust pipe to cylinder head exhaust port
   • Front exhaust pipe assembly
   • Exhaust manifold covers

   • Front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifolds

To Install:

Note: Replace the gaskets with new ones.

1. Install or connect the following:
   • Front exhaust pipe covers
     1. Torque to: 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
   • Upper exhaust manifold cover (RH)
     1. Torque to: 13.7 ft. lbs. (19 Nm)
   • Front exhaust pipe assembly
     1. Torque to: 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm)
   • Exhaust manifold (RH) to turbocharger joint pipe
   • Upper and lower exhaust manifold covers (LH)
     1. Torque to: 13.7 ft. lbs. (19 Nm)
   • Lower exhaust manifold cover (RH)
   • Front oxygen sensor
   • Under cover
   • Ground cable to battery

2.5L SOHC Engine

To Remove:

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
2. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Ground cable from battery
   • Front and rear oxygen sensor connectors
3. Safely raise and support the vehicle.
4. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Front and center exhaust pipe assembly from rear exhaust pipe
   • Under cover
   • Nuts connecting the front exhaust pipe onto cylinder heads

   • Bolt from front and center exhaust pipe assembly to hanger bracket
   • Front and center exhaust pipe assembly from vehicle
   • Front exhaust pipe from center exhaust pipe

To Install:

Note: Replace all gaskets with new ones.

1. Install or connect the following:
   • Front exhaust pipe to center exhaust pipe
     1. Torque to: 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm)
   • Front and center exhaust pipe assembly to vehicle Temporarily tighten the bolt connecting the front and center exhaust pipe assembly to hanger bracket. Install or connect the following:
   • Nuts connecting front exhaust pipe onto cylinder heads
     1. Torque to: 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm)
   • Under cover
   • Bolts connecting front and center exhaust pipe assembly to rear exhaust pipe.
     1. Torque to: 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm)
   • Tighten the bolt which holds front and center exhaust pipe assembly to hanger bracket.
     1. Torque to: 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm)
2. Lower the vehicle.
3. Install or connect the following:
   • Rear oxygen sensor connector
   • Front oxygen (A/F) sensor connector
   • Battery ground cable to battery
