Power Steering Pump

Removal & Installation

Non-Turbo Models

To Remove:

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
2. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Ground cable from battery
   • Pulley belt cover

   • Oil pump pulley nut and bolts securing alternator
   • Lock bolt and slider bolt and remove power steering pump drive V-belt
   • Connector from power steering pump switch

   • Pipe C and suction hose from oil pump

     CAUTION
     Do not allow fluid from the hose end to come into contact with pulley belt. To prevent foreign matter from entering the hose and pipe, cover the open ends of them with a clean cloth.

   • Power steering pump bracket bolts

   • Oil pump front side bolts by placing oil pump bracket in a vise

     CAUTION
     Do not place oil pump bracket directly in the vise; use soft pads and hold oil pump lightly to protect the pump.

   • Socket from oil pump
   • Oil pump rear side bolt

   • Oil pump and bracket by inserting a screwdriver

To Install:

1. Install or connect the following
   • Oil pump to bracket
   • Bushing (placing oil pump bracket in a vise) using a 12.7 mm (1/2) type 14- and 21 mm box wrench until it is in contact with oil pump mounting surface

     CAUTION
     Do not place oil pump bracket directly in the vise; use soft pads and hold oil pump lightly to protect the pump.

   • Oil pump and switch bracket to bracket bolt
   • Socket to oil pump

   • Power steering pump bracket bolts

   • Interconnect pipes C and suction hose
     1. Torque to: 28.9 ft. lbs. (39.2 Nm)
   • Connector to power steering oil pressure switch

   • Pulley belt to oil pump and check tension
     1. Torque to: 18.1 ft. lbs. (24.5 Nm)
   • Pulley belt cover bracket
   • Ground terminal of battery
   • Power steering fluid

Turbo Model

To Remove:

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
2. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Ground terminal from battery
   • Pulley belt cover
   • Lock bolt and slider bolt and remove the power steering pump drive V-belt
   • Connector from the power steering pressure switch
   • Pipe and suction hose from the oil pump
   • Power steering pump bracket bolts
3. Place the oil pump bracket in a vise, remove the two bolts from the front side of oil pump.
4. Remove the bolt from the rear side of oil pump.
5. Disassemble the oil pump and bracket by inserting a screwdriver.

To Install:

1. Install or connect the following
   • Oil pump to bracket
   • Bushing (placing oil pump bracket in a vise) using a 12.7 mm (1/2) type 14- and 21 mm box wrench until it is in contact with oil pump mounting surface

     CAUTION
     Do not place oil pump bracket directly in the vise; use soft pads and hold oil pump lightly to protect the pump.

   • Oil pump and switch bracket to bracket bolt

   • Power steering pump bracket bolts
   • Interconnect pipes C and suction hose
   • Connector to power steering oil pressure switch
   • Pulley belt to oil pump and check tension
   • Pulley belt cover
   • Ground terminal of battery
   • Power steering fluid
