Cranking System Description
Precautions: General safety (00)
Cranking Circuit
The cranking circuit consists of the battery, starting motor, starting motor control relay, keyless start control module or engine switch, CPP No.1 switch (M/T model) or transmission range sensor (A/T model) and related electrical wiring.
Starting Motor Circuit
In the circuit shown in Cranking System Circuit Diagram:K14C, the coil of the magnetic switch in starting motor is energized when the engine starts. The resulting movement of the plunger and pinion drive lever causes the pinion to engage with the flywheel (M/T model) or drive plate (A/T model), while closing the contacts of the magnetic switch. This causes the starting motor to rotate to crank the engine.
When the engine starts, the pinion overrunning clutch protects the armature from excessive speed until the switch is opened, at which time the return spring causes the pinion to disengage.
Starting Motor (ENG A-STOP Model)
In ENG A-STOP system, ENG A-STOP control module stores starting motor driving counter.
When starting motor driving counter exceeds 180,000, DTC P1313 is detected and ENG A-STOP warning light is lit.
If DTC P1313 is detected, starting motor assembly must be replaced.
