SEAL(S)-CAMSHAFT OIL
REMOVAL

CAUTION: BEFORE REMOVING THE TIMING BELT, THE ENGINE MUST BE PLACED AT 90° AFTER TDC. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN VALVE AND/OR PISTON DAMAGE DURING ASSEMBLY.
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove engine cover (Refer to 9 - ENGINE COVER - REMOVAL) .
3. Remove cooling fan and fan drive viscous clutch assembly (Refer to 7 - COOLING/ENGINE/FAN DRIVE VISCOUS CLUTCH - REMOVAL) .
4. Remove accessory drive belt (Refer to 7 - COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/DRIVE BELTS - REMOVAL) .

5. Bring piston #1 to TDC, turn crankshaft until the mark on the crankshaft lines up with the mark on the front cover.

6. Install the 90° alignment pin into the crankcase threaded hole on the right side of the engine to lock the crankcase.
NOTE: The crankshaft locking tool threads into the block, and then the bolt threads through the crankshaft locking tool and into the crankshaft. If the bolt does not thread into the crankshaft, the crankshaft is not in the correct location.

7. Remove the front engine lifting bracket.

8. Remove the idler pulley bracket.

9. Disconnect the CMP sensor (1).
10. Remove the upper front cover (2).

11. Remove the exhaust camshaft oil seal.

12. Install the camshaft locking tool.

13. Loosen the timing chain tensioner and remove the timing belt.

14. Remove the camshaft timing sprocket.
15. Remove the cylinder head cover. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/CYLINDER HEAD/CYLINDER HEAD COVER(S) - REMOVAL)

16. Install the camshaft timing tool on the exhaust camshaft (1).
17. Remove the intake camshaft oil seal (2).
INSTALLATION

1. Install the intake camshaft oil seal (2).

2. Make sure that the camshaft locking tool is correctly installed.
3. Install the front camshaft cap.
4. Install the cylinder head cover. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/CYLINDER HEAD/CYLINDER HEAD COVER(S) - INSTALLATION)

5. Install the camshaft sprocket (2). Torque the bolt to 64 N·m (47 ft.lbs.).
6. Remove the camshaft locking tool.
7. Install the exhaust camshaft seal (1).

NOTE: DO NOT remove the timing belt from the package until it's ready to be installed. DO NOT expose timing belt to oil, grease or water contamination. DO NOT crimp belt at a sharp angle. DO NOT clean belt, pulleys or tensioner with solvent. Check that pulleys and bearings are not seized or damage before installing belt.
8. Install timing belt.
9. Adjust the timing belt tensioner (turn it clockwise) by lining up the center notch with the aluminum cover dowel pin. Tighten the retaining bolt to 45 N·m. (33 (lbs. ft.) (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TMNG BELT/CHAIN TENSIONER&PULLEY - DJUSTMENTS).

10. Install the lower front cover. Torque the bolts to 11 N·m (97 lbs. in.)
11. Install the vibration damper (1). Torque the bolt to N·m (80 lbs. ft.)

12. Install the upper front cover (2). Torque the bolts to 11 N·m (97 lbs in.)

13. Install the idler pulley bracket (1).

14. Install the front engine lifting bracket. Torque the bolts to 45 N·m (33 ft.lbs.)

15. Remove crankshaft locking tool.
16. Install accessory drive belt (Refer to 7 - COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/DRIVE BELTS - INSTALLATION) .
17. Install cooling fan and fan drive viscous clutch assembly (Refer to 7 - COOLING/ENGINE/FAN DRIVE VISCOUS CLUTCH - INSTALLATION) .
18. Connect negative battery cable.
