TENSIONER AND PULLEY-TIMING BELT AND CHAIN

REMOVAL




1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove the radiator cooling fan.
(Refer to 7 - COOLING/ENGINE/RADIATOR FAN - REMOVAL)
3. Remove the accessory drive belt.
4. Rotate the engine until the VM 9892 Crankshaft locking tool can be installed. Install the VM 9892 Crankshaft locking tool into the left side of the engine block, slightly rearward of the left engine mount. Make sure that the outer portion of the tool threads into the block and the bolt threads into the crankshaft. If the bolt does not thread into the crankshaft, the crankshaft is not at 90° ATDC.


5. Remove the front lifting bracket.



6. Remove the Idler pulley bracket.



7. Remove the CMP sensor (1).
8. Remove the upper front cover (2).



9. Remove the camshaft oil seal to expose the camshaft tone wheel.



10. Install the camshaft locking tool onto the camshaft position sensor tone wheel.
11. The engine is now locked at 90° ATDC.



12. Remove the crankshaft damper (1).
13. Remove the lower front cover (2).



14. Remove the timing belt tensioner.
15. Remove the timing belt.

INSTALLATION



NOTE: DO NOT remove the timing belt from the package until it's ready to be installed. DO NOT expose timing belt to oil, grease or water contamination. DO NOT crimp belt at a sharp angle. DO NOT clean belt, pulleys or tensioner with solvent. Check that pulleys and bearings are not seized or damage before installing belt.




1. Make sure that the engine is set to 90° ATDC.
(Refer to 9 - ENGINE/VALVE TIMING - STANDARD PROCEDURE)
2. Make sure that the crankshaft sprocket mark is lined up with the mark on the engine.


3. Install timing belt tensioner (2) and retaining bolt.
4. Install the timing belt.



5. Adjust timing belt tensioner by lining up the arrow and the notch as illustrated.



6. Install the lower front cover (2). Torque the bolts to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.)
7. Install the crankshaft damper. Torque the bolts to 32 Nm (23 lbs. ft.)



8. Install the upper front cover (2). Torque the bolts to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.).
9. Install the CMP sensor (1). Torque the bolt to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.).



10. Install the exhaust camshaft oil seal.



11. Install the idler pulley bracket. Torque the bolts to 45 Nm (33 lbs. ft.).



12. Install the front lifting bracket. Torque the bolts to 45 Nm (33 lbs. ft.).
13. Install cooling fan support
(Refer to 7 - COOLING/ENGINE/RADIATOR FAN - INSTALLATION) .
14. Install accessory drive belt (Refer to 7 - COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/DRIVE BELTS - INSTALLATION) .
15. Connect negative battery cable.
