DESCRIPTION

A suspended-type brake pedal is used, the pedal pivots on a shaft mounted in the pedal support bracket. The bracket is attached to the dash panel.

The brake pedal assembly and pedal pad are the only serviceable component.

OPERATION

OPERATION

The brake pedal is attached to the booster push rod. When the pedal is depressed, the primary booster push rod is depressed which moves the booster secondary rod. The booster secondary rod depresses the master cylinder piston.

REMOVAL

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.

 
2. Remove the instrument panel (Refer to 23 - Body/Instrument Panel/PANEL, Instrument - Removal) .
   

 
3. Remove stop lamp switch (Refer to 08 - Electrical/Lamps/Lighting - Exterior/SWITCH, Stop Lamp/Removal) .
   
   

   NOTE:

   Do not discard the stop lamp switch as it can be adjusted and reinstalled.


 
4. Remove the mounting bolts (3) securing the shaft.
   
   

   NOTE:

   Clutch pedal is spring loaded (4), Care should be taken when shaft is being removed.


 
5. Slide the pedal shaft inboard until pedals fall free.

 
6. Remove pedal bushings (5) if they are to be replaced.
   

 

INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION

1. Install new bushings (5) in pedal and lP structure lubricate all bushings and shaft with multi-purpose grease.

 
2. Position the shaft in lP structure and install the shaft mounting bolts (3).

 
3. Install new retaining clip.

 
4. Install the instrument panel (Refer to 23 - Body/Instrument Panel/PANEL, Instrument - Installation)

 
5. Reinstall and adjust the stop lamp switch that was set aside for reuse (Refer to 08 - Electrical/8L - Lamps and Lighting/Lamps/Lighting - Exterior/SWITCH, Stop Lamp - Adjustments) .

 
6. Install negative battery cable.
