DTC    P3000-388    HV Battery Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The power management control ECU alerts the driver and performs fail-safe control based on error signals received from the battery smart unit. This DTC is set when the SOC (state of charge) of the HV battery starts to drop as a result of leaving the shift lever in N, running out of fuel, or a malfunction in the hybrid control system.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT:
  1. If the vehicle is stopped or parked with the shift lever in the N position for a long time, DTC P3000-388 may be set because the HV battery cannot be charged.
  2. When the engine cannot be started, DTC P3000-388 may be set because the HV battery cannot be charged.
  3. Repeated engine start checks may cause the SOC to drop, resulting in DTC P3000-388 being set. In this case, charge the HV battery using the THS charger.
  4. Cranking the engine once causes the SOC to drop approximately 1%.
  5. Charging the HV battery once (10 minutes) using the THS charger restores the SOC approximately 2%.
  6. Charging the HV battery using the THS charger takes approximately 10 minutes when the battery temperature is 25°C (77°F) or approximately 30 minutes when the battery temperature is 0°C (32°F).
  7. The THS charger is a supplemental charging device that enables the engine to start (READY-on state).

1.CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HYBRID CONTROL)

  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the power switch on (IG).

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / DTC.

  1. Check if DTCs are output.

    Result:
    Result
    		Proceed to
    P3000-388 or P3000-389 only is output.
    		A
    DTCs other than P3000-388, P3000-389, and P0AF8 are also output.
    		B

  1. Turn the power switch off.

2.CHECK DTC OUTPUT (ENGINE AND ECT)

  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the power switch on (IG).

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.

  1. Check if DTCs are output.

    Result:
    Result
    		Proceed to
    NO DTCs are output.
    		A
    DTCs are output.
    		B

  1. Turn the power switch off.

3.CHECK AMOUNT OF GASOLINE

  1. Turn the power switch on (IG).

  1. Check the amount of fuel by referring to the fuel gauge in the meter.

    Result:

    Proper amount of fuel is in the tank.

    There is no fuel in the tank.
    		B

HINT:
Add fuel until the low fuel level warning light turns off.

  1. Turn the power switch off.

4.CHECK ENGINE START

  1. Turn the power switch on (READY).

  1. Check if the engine starts.

    HINT:
    1. Depressing the accelerator pedal with the park (P) selected will cause the engine to start.
    2. Turning the power switch on (READY) and off repeatedly while the SOC is low may cause the SOC to drop further, resulting in DTC P3000-389 being set. Charge the HV battery using the THS charger as necessary.
    3. Cranking the engine once causes the SOC to drop approximately 1%.
    4. Charging the HV battery once (10 minutes) using the THS charger restores the SOC approximately 2%.

  1. If the engine does not start, turn the power switch off.
