REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Tag and disconnect the spark plug wires from the ignition coil. When pulling the wire from the coil, grip the boot and not the cable.

  3. If necessary, pull up on the electrical connector locking tab, then unplug the coil connector.

  4. Unfasten the ignition coil mounting bolts/screws, then remove the coil from the engine.

    Fig. 6: . . . then remove the ignition coil assembly from the vehicle

  5. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  6. Tighten the ignition coil mounting bolts to the following specifications:
    1. 1990–94 2.0L engines: 14–20 ft. lbs. (20–27 Nm).
    2. 1995–98 2.0L non-turbo engines: 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
    3. 1995–98 2.0L turbo and 2.4L engines: 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).
