TESTING

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Check to be sure the radiator fan rotates when spun by hand.
  3. For 1990–94 vehicles proceed as follows:
    1. Connect 1 end of a jumper wire to terminal 4 of the coolant fan motor connector. Connect the other end of the jumper wire to the negative battery terminal.
    2. Connect 1 end of another jumper wire to terminal 2 of the coolant fan motor connector. Momentarily connect the other end of the jumper wire to the positive battery terminal.

  4. To test the cooling fan for 1995–98 vehicles, attach the jumper wire as shown in the accompanying figures.

  5. The fan motor should run. Listen for abnormal noise while the motor is turning. If present, replace the coolant fan motor.
