PROCEDURE

1990–94 Vehicles
  1. Loosen the fuel filler cap to release fuel tank pressure.
  2. Detach the fuel pump harness connector located at the rear of the fuel tank.
  3. Start the vehicle and allow it to run until it stalls from lack of fuel. Turn the key to the OFF position.

  4. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then reattach the fuel pump connector and reinstall the fuel filler cap. The fuel system can now be safely serviced, but make sure to always wrap shop towels around a fitting that is being disconnected to absorb residual fuel in the lines.
1995–98 Vehicles
  1. Remove the rear seat cushion.

  2. Remove the access plate, then detach the fuel pump connector.

    Fig. 5: Unplug the fuel pump connector to relieve the fuel system pressure

  3. Start the engine and allow it to run until it stops, due to lack of fuel. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  4. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  5. Attach the fuel pump connector and install the access plate.
  6. Install the rear seat cushion.
