Wiper Motor

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Front

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the windshield wiper arms by unscrewing the cap nuts and lifting the arms from the linkage post.
3. Remove the front deck garnish panel.
4. For 1990–94 vehicles, remove the air inlet trim pieces and remove the hole cover.
5. Detach the wiper motor electrical connector.

6. For 1990–94 vehicles, remove the wiper motor by loosening the mounting bolts, removing the motor assembly, then disconnecting the linkage.

7. For 1995–98 vehicles, unfasten the retaining bolts, then remove the wiper motor and link as an assembly.

   NOTE: The installation angle of the crank arm and motor has been factory set; do not remove them unless it is necessary to do so. If they must be removed, remove them only after marking their mounting positions.

   To install:

8. For 1990–94 vehicles, install the windshield wiper motor and connect the linkage. Tighten the motor retaining bolts to 5–8 ft. lbs. (7–11 Nm).
9. For 1995–98 vehicles, install the wiper motor and link assembly.
10. Install all trim pieces taken off during removal.
11. Reinstall the wiper blades. Note that the driver's side wiper arm should be marked D or Dr and the passenger's side wiper arm should be marked A or As. The identification marks should be located at the base of the arm, near the pivot. Install the arms so the blades are 1 inch from the garnish molding when parked.
12. Connect the negative battery cable and check the wiper system for proper operation.

Rear

1990–94 VEHICLES

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the rear wiper arm by removing the cover, unscrewing the nut and lifting the arm from the linkage post.
3. Remove the large interior trim panel. Use a plastic trim removal tool to unhook the trim clips of the liftgate trim.
4. If equipped with rear air spoiler, remove the wiper grommet.
5. Remove the rear wiper assembly motor. Do not loosen the grommet for the wiper post.

   To install:

6. Install the wiper motor and secure with the retaining bolts. Tighten to 5–7 ft. lbs. (7–10 Nm).
7. Install the grommet. Mount the grommet so the arrow on the grommet is pointing upward.
8. Install the wiper blade and arm assembly.
9. Connect the negative battery cable and check the rear wiper for proper operation.
10. If operation is satisfactory, fit the tabs on the upper part of the liftgate trim into the liftgate clips and secure the liftgate trim.

1995–98 VEHICLES

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the rear wiper arm by removing the cover, unscrewing the nut and lifting the arm from the linkage post.
3. Remove the spacer assembly.
4. Remove the liftgate lower trim.
5. Unfasten the retaining bolt(s), then remove the rear wiper motor from the vehicle.

   To install:

6. Position the rear wiper motor in the vehicle and secure with the retaining bolt(s). Tighten to 5.4 ft. lbs. (7.4 Nm).
7. Install the spacer.
8. Install the rear wiper blade and arm assembly.
9. Connect the negative battery cable, then check the wiper for proper operation, before installing the trim panel.
10. Install the liftgate lower trim panel.
