REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

3000GT

RIGHT SIDE (FRONT)

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Negative battery cable
   • Radiator
   • Right side transaxle bracket
   • Front exhaust pipe
   • All air intake hoses and pipes along the front of the engine
   • Alternator
   • Oil dipstick tube
   • Turbocharger heat shield
   • Water feed pipes
   • Heated Oxygen (HO2S) sensor
   • Oil return line
   • Exhaust extension fitting and bracket
   • All air conditioning components preventing removal of the turbocharger
   • Oil feed tube
   • Turbocharger to exhaust manifold bolts and remove the turbocharger assembly

   To install:

3. Clean all mating surfaces. Pour clean engine oil through the oil pipe feed hole in the turbocharger.
4. Install or connect the following:
   • Turbocharger to the manifold, with new gaskets. Torque the bolts to 40–47 ft. lbs. (55–65 Nm).
   • Oil feed pipe
   • Air conditioning components
   • Exhaust extension fitting and bracket. Torque the nuts to 40–47 ft. lbs. (55–65 Nm).
   • Oil return line
   • HO2S sensor
   • Water feed pipes
   • Turbocharger heat shield
   • Dipstick tube
   • Alternator
   • Air intake hoses and pipes along the front of the engine
   • New gasket and connect the front exhaust pipe
   • Right side transaxle bracket
   • Radiator
5. Fill the system with coolant.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.

LEFT SIDE (REAR)

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Drain the coolant.
4. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Front exhaust pipe
   • Accelerator cable from the throttle body
   • Intake air hose, the air pipe across the top of the engine and its heat shield
   • Clutch booster vacuum hose and disconnect the accelerator cable from the pedal
   • Air intake hoses coming from the air cleaner box
   • HO2S sensor and the turbocharger heat shield
   • EGR pipe, if equipped
   • Oil feed pipe
   • EGR valve, if equipped
   • Water feed pipes
   • Exhaust extension fitting and bracket
   • Inner heat shield
   • Oil return tube
   • Turbocharger to exhaust manifold nuts and remove the turbocharger assembly

   To install:

5. Clean all mating surfaces. Pour clean engine oil through the oil pipe feed hole in the turbocharger.
6. Install or connect the following:
   • New gasket and ring and install the turbocharger to the manifold. Torque the nuts to 40–47 ft. lbs. (55–65 Nm).
   • Oil return line
   • Inner heat shield
   • Exhaust extension fitting and bracket. Torque the nuts to 40–47 ft. lbs. (55–65 Nm).
   • Water feed pipes
   • EGR valve, if equipped
   • Oil feed pipe
   • EGR pipe, if equipped
   • Turbocharger heat shield and HO2S sensor
   • Air intake hoses coming from the air cleaner box. Be sure the triangular aligning marks are engaged.
   • Clutch booster vacuum hose
   • Heat shield, the air pipe across the top of the engine and the air intake hose
   • Accelerator cable to the throttle body
   • Front exhaust pipe
7. Fill the system with coolant.
8. Install the battery.

Eclipse

CAUTION
The air bag system must be disarmed before removing the turbocharger.

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Drain the engine coolant.
4. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Condenser fan motor assembly, if equipped with air conditioning
   • HO2S sensor
   • Dipstick and tube assembly
   • Air cleaner and air intake hose assembly
   • Air intake hose from the turbocharger
   • Engine coolant hoses from the turbocharger
   • Oil supply pipe connection
   • Heat shields
   • Engine hanger
   • Front exhaust pipe from the turbocharger
   • Oil return pipe and gaskets
   • Flange bolts and nut that attach the turbo to the exhaust manifold. Take note of the positions of the coned disc springs and the washers.
   • Turbocharger, gasket and ring

   To install:

5. Use a new gasket and install the turbo to the exhaust manifold. Be sure the coned disc spring and the washers are installed in their original positions. Torque the bolts and nut to 20–23 ft. lbs. (27–31 Nm). Further tighten the bolts and nuts 60–70 degrees.

6. Install or connect the following:
   • Exhaust pipe to the turbo — Torque the mounting bolts to 40–47 ft. lbs. (54–64 Nm).
   • Oil return pipe
   • Engine hanger
   • Heat shields
   • Oil supply pipe. Torque the flare nut fittings to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
   • Engine coolant hoses to the turbo
   • Air hose
   • Air cleaner and duct assembly
   • Dipstick tube and dipstick, with new O-ring
   • HO2S sensor
   • Condenser fan assembly if removed
   • Negative battery cable and refill the engine with coolant
