The engine oil cooler is a heat exchanger whose job is to help keep the temperature of the engine oil controlled. When engine oil is kept at temperatures neither too hot nor too cold, the engine oil lasts longer, keeps its viscosity (the thickness and "slippery-ness'' of oil) longer, and does not break down as fast. These things, combined with regular oil and filter changes, help your engine last longer and run better.
