Inspection Procedure 7: Buzzers do not sound normally.
 
 
cautionBefore replacing the combination meter, be sure to check that the power supply circuit, earth circuit, and communication circuit are normal.
 
 
 
 
COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
When the following signals are received via the CAN communication or signal line, the combination meter sounds the incorporated buzzer according to the each pattern.
AS&G buzzer
  • Sounding request signal from the Engine-ECU
ACC approaching warning buzzer/ACC automatic cancelling buzzer/ACC vehicle-traveling-ahead missing indication buzzer/ASLF overspeed buzzer
  • Sounding request signal from the ACC/FCM-ECU
Ultrasonic misacceleration mitigation system cancel buzzer <Vehicles with ultrasonic misacceleration mitigation system>
  • Sounding request signal from the clearance warning control unit
A/T shift cancel buzzer <CVT>
  • Sounding request signal from the CVT-ECU
TPMS setting buzzer
  • Ignition switch ON signal
  • Sounding request signal from the KOS&OSS-ECU <Vehicles with KOS> or ETACS-ECU <Vehicles without KOS>
FCM collision warning buzzer/FCM approaching warning buzzer
  • Sounding request signal from the ACC/FCM-ECU or FCM/LDW/AHB-ECU <Vehicles without ACC>
ASC pre high temperature warning buzzer/ASC high temperature warning buzzer
  • Sounding request signal from the ASC-ECU
Brake auto hold warning buzzer <Vehicles with electric parking brake>
  • Sounding request signal from the ASC-ECU
Brake auto hold switch cancel buzzer <Vehicles with electric parking brake>
  • Sounding request signal from the ASC-ECU
Electric Parking brake warning buzzer <Vehicles with electric parking brake>

Electric steering wheel lock malfunction warning buzzer <Vehicles with OSS>
  • Ignition switch signal
  • LIN bus line (local) for electrical steering lock
  • Actuator driving permission monitoring signal
OSS-related malfunction warning buzzer <Vehicles with OSS>
  • Ignition switch signal
  • When the following conditions are met, and 1 second or more has elapsed.
    1. +B1 is detected to be ON and +B2 is detected to be OFF.
    2. When +B1 is OFF and +B2 is ON, OSS-ECU detects that the IOD fuse is mounted.
Engine switch reminder buzzer <Vehicles with OSS>
  • Engine switch ON signal

OSS Key Authentification buzzer <Vehicles with KOS>
  • Sounding request signal from the KOS&OSS-ECU
Front seat belt reminder function

Multi information display interrupt display buzzer
  • Display condition signal of information display from each warning (When there is a fixed buzzer sounding pattern for each warning, that pattern has the priority.)
Multi-information display switch or rheostat illumination button operation buzzer
  • ON signal for multi-information display switch or rheostat illumination button
Rest reminder buzzer
  • When the time to take a rest which was set on the multi information display is reached.
Turn-signal lamp buzzer
  • Turn-signal lamp switch ON signal
Security alarm buzzer
  • Ignition switch ON signal
  • Sounding request signal from the ETACS-ECU
Lamp reminder buzzer
  • Ignition switch OFF signal
  • Lighting switch ON signal
  • Driver's door switch ON signal
Door-ajar warning buzzer
  • Ignition switch ON signal
  • Any door switch or tailgate switch ON signal

ETACS-ECU function customise buzzer
  • Sounding request signal from the ETACS-ECU
Ultrasonic misacceleration mitigation system warning buzzer <Vehicles with ultrasonic misacceleration mitigation system>
  • Sounding request signal from the clearance warning control unit
LDW warning buzzer
  • Sounding request signal from the FCM/LDW/AHB-ECU
Blind spot warning buzzer <Vehicles with Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (with Lane Change Assist)>
  • Sounding request signal from the BSW-ECU
Rear cross traffic alert buzzer <Vehicles with Blind Spot Warning [BSW] (with Lane Change Assist)>
  • Sounding request signal from the BSW-ECU
Audio operation buzzer/A/C operation buzzer
  • Sounding request signal from the radio and CD player, Multivision display, A/C-ECU
If the buzzer does not sound normally, the connector(s) and wiring harness in the CAN bus lines, or the ETACS-ECU or the combination meter may have a problem.
 
 
PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of combination meter
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors
  • Malfunction of ECUs
 
 
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. M.U.T.-IIISE CAN bus diagnostics
Use the M.U.T.-IIISE to diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting ).
 
STEP 2. M.U.T.-IIISE diagnosis code
Check if diagnosis code is set in the combination meter.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Refer to .
Go to Step 3.
 
STEP 3. M.U.T.-IIISE other system diagnosis code
Check if diagnosis code is set in the engine-ECU, ACC/FCM-ECU <Vehicles with ACC>, CVT-ECU <CVT>, AWC-ECU <4WD>, ASC-ECU, electric parking brake ECU <Vehicles with electric parking brake>, EPS-ECU, KOS&OSS-ECU <Vehicles with KOS>, SRS-ECU, radio and CD player <Vehicles with radio and CD player>, multivision display <Vehicles with Smartphone Link Display Audio or MMCS>, ETACS-ECU, clearance warning control unit, FCM/LDW/AHB-ECU, BSW-ECU and A/C controller assembly.
Is the diagnosis code set to the any of the above?
Set in the engine. : Troubleshoot the engine. Refer to GROUP 13A - Diagnosis Code Chart .
Set in the ACC/FCM-ECU. : Troubleshoot the ACC. Refer to GROUP 17 - Troubleshooting .
Set in the CVT-ECU. : Troubleshoot the CVT. Refer to GROUP 23A - Diagnosis code chart .
Set in the AWC-ECU. : Troubleshoot the 4WD. Refer to GROUP 23A - Troubleshooting .
Set in the ASC-ECU. : Troubleshoot the ASC. Refer to GROUP 35C - Troubleshooting .
Set in the electric parking brake ECU. : Troubleshoot the Electric parking brake. Refer to GROUP 36 - Troubleshooting .
Set in the EPS-ECU. : Troubleshoot the EPS. Refer to GROUP 37 - Troubleshooting .
Set in the KOS&OSS-ECU. : Troubleshoot the KOS/OSS. Refer to GROUP 42B - Troubleshooting .
Set in the SRS-ECU. : Troubleshoot the SRS. Refer to GROUP 52B - Troubleshooting .
Set in the radio and CD player. : Troubleshoot the radio and CD player. Refer to .
Set in the multivision display. : Troubleshoot the Smartphone Link Display Audio or MMCS. Refer to <Smartphone Link Display Audio> or <MMCS>.
Set in the ETACS-ECU. : Troubleshoot the ETACS-ECU. Refer to .
Set in the clearance warning control unit. : Troubleshoot the corner sensor system/ultrasonic misacceleration mitigation system. Refer to .
Set in the FCM/LDW/AHB-ECU. : Troubleshoot the FCM and LDW, refer to .
Set in the BSW-ECU. : Troubleshoot the BSW/RCTA. Refer to .
Set in the A/C controller assembly. : Troubleshoot the A/C. Refer to GROUP 55 - Troubleshooting .
The diagnosis code is not set. : Go to Step 4.
 
STEP 4. Check by M.U.T.-IIISE "Special Function"
Using M.U.T.-IIISE, select "Test" from the special function of the combination meter. Execute the following item to check the buzzer.
  • Item 8: Buzzer(AUTO)
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Replace the combination meter.
 
STEP 5. Retest the system
Check that the buzzers sound normally.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the combination meter.
