54 -CHASSIS ELECTRICAL > 54A-CHASSIS ELECTRICAL > COMBINATION METER > SYMPTOM PROCEDURES > THE COMBINATION METER LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE NORMALLY OR THE MULTI INFORMATION DISPLAY IS NOT DISPLAYED NORMALLY.
Inspection Procedure 9: The combination meter lamp does not illuminate normally or the multi-information display is not displayed normally.

cautionBefore replacing the combination meter, be sure to check that the power supply circuit, earth circuit, and communication circuit are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
When the signal from each ECU is received via the CAN communication, the combination meter illuminates the corresponding display lamp or warning lamp, or has the multi-information display to display corresponding information.
If the lamps do not illuminate or the multi-information display does not display normally, the wiring harness and connector(s) in the CAN bus lines, each ECU (that sends a signal) or the combination meter may have a problem.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of combination meter
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. M.U.T.-IIISE CAN bus diagnostics
Use the M.U.T.-IIISE to diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting ).

STEP 2. M.U.T.-IIISE diagnosis code
Check again if the diagnosis code is set in the combination meter.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Refer to .
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. M.U.T.-IIISE other system diagnosis code
Check again if the diagnosis code is set in the engine-ECU, CVT-ECU <CVT>, AWC-ECU <4WD>, ASC-ECU, electric parking brake ECU <Vehicles with electric parking brake>, ACC/FCM-ECU <Vehicles with ACC>, EPS-ECU, KOS&OSS-ECU <Vehicles with KOS>, SRS-ECU, ETACS-ECU, A/C controller assembly, clearance warning control unit, FCM/LDW/AHB-ECU and BSW-ECU.
Is the diagnosis code set in the any of the above?
Set in the engine. : Troubleshoot the engine. Refer to GROUP 13A - Diagnosis Code Chart .
Set in the ACC/FCM-ECU. : Troubleshoot the ACC. Refer to GROUP 17 - Troubleshooting .
Set in the CVT-ECU. : Troubleshoot the CVT. Refer to GROUP 23A - Diagnosis code chart .
Set in the AWC-ECU. : Troubleshoot the 4WD. Refer to GROUP 23A - Troubleshooting .
Set in the ASC-ECU. : Troubleshoot the ASC. Refer to GROUP 35C - Troubleshooting .
Set in the electric parking brake ECU. : Troubleshoot the Electric parking brake. Refer to GROUP 36 - Troubleshooting .
Set in the EPS-ECU. : Troubleshoot the EPS. Refer to GROUP 37 - Troubleshooting .
Set in the KOS&OSS-ECU. : Troubleshoot the KOS/OSS. Refer to GROUP 42B - Troubleshooting .
Set in the SRS-ECU. : Troubleshoot the SRS. Refer to GROUP 52B - Troubleshooting .
Set in the ETACS-ECU. : Troubleshoot the ETACS-ECU. Refer to .
Set in the clearance warning control unit. : Troubleshoot the corner sensor system/ultrasonic misacceleration mitigation system. Refer to .
Set in the FCM/LDW/AHB-ECU. : Troubleshoot the FCM, LDW and automatic high beam system, refer to .
Set in the BSW-ECU. : Troubleshoot the BSW/RCTA. Refer to .
Set in the A/C controller assembly. : Troubleshoot the A/C. Refer to GROUP 55 - Troubleshooting .
The diagnosis code is not set. : Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. M.U.T.-IIISE Special Function
Using M.U.T.-IIISE, select "Test" from the special function of the combination meter. Execute the following item to check the liquid crystal display.
  • Item 3: LCD(AUTO)
  • Item 7: Illumination (AUTO)
  • Item 9: Indicator (AUTO)
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Replace the combination meter.

STEP 5. Retest the system.
Check that combination meter illumination function should work normally.
Is the check result normal?
The procedure is complete. (If no malfunctions are found in all steps, an intermittent malfunction is suspected. Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the combination meter.
