Inspection Procedure 13: Front seat belt reminder function does not work normally (drover’s side).

cautionBefore replacing the combination meter, be sure to check that the power supply circuit, earth circuit, and communication circuit are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If the seat belt reminder function (driver’s side) does not work normally, the seat belt switch input circuit, or the combination meter may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of CAN bus line
  • Malfunction of the seat belt switch (driver’s side)
  • Malfunction of the combination meter
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. M.U.T.-IIISE CAN bus diagnostics
Use the M.U.T.-IIISE to diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting ).

STEP 2. Check the seat belt switch (driver’s side).
Check the seat belt switch (driver’s side). Refer to GROUP 52A - Front Seat Belt .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Replace the seat belt switch or the front seat pad (with front seat belt reminder sensor).

STEP 3. Resistance measurement at the seat belt switch (driver’s side) connector
(1) Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Measure the resistance between the seat belt switch (driver’s side) connector (earth terminals) and the body earth.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check of short, open circuit in body earth line between seat belt switch (driver’s side) connector and the body earth.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 5. Check of short to power supply circuit in SBDS line between combination meter connector and seat belt switch (driver’s side) connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 6. Retest the system.
The seat belt reminder function (driver’s side) should work normally.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the combination meter.
