Inspection Procedure 1: The heated windshield does not work.
 
 
cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the earth circuit and the communication circuit are normal.
 
 
COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
When the heated windshield does not work with the heated windshield switch ON (5- or 10-minute timer is triggered), the IG1 relay circuit system may be defective.
noteWhen the engine is not running, the heated windshield does not work.
 
 
PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of A/C controller assembly
  • Malfunction of ETACS-ECU
  • Malfunction of the ambient temperature sensor
  • Malfunction of heated windshield switch
  • Malfunction of heated windshield
  • Wiring harness or connector failure
 
 
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. M.U.T.-IIISE CAN bus diagnostics
Use M.U.T.-IIISE to diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting ).
 
STEP 2. M.U.T.-IIISE diagnosis code
Check that the air conditioner has not set a diagnosis code.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Carry out the diagnosis code procedures (Refer to GROUP 55 - Troubleshooting ).
Go to Step 3.
 
STEP 3. M.U.T.-IIISE other system diagnosis code
Check that the ETACS-ECU has not set a diagnosis code.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Diagnose the ETACS-ECU (Refer to ).
Go to Step 4.
 
STEP 4. M.U.T.-IIISE data list
Check that the following service data display contents are normal (Refer to GROUP 55 - Data List Reference Table ).
Item No.6: Ambient temperature sensor
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Go to Step 5.
 
STEP 5. Inspection of the ambient temperature sensor
Refer to GROUP 55 - Ambient Temperature Sensor .
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the ambient temperature sensor (Refer to GROUP 55- Ambient Temperature Sensor ).
 
STEP 6. Check of open circuit, short to earth in HWSS line between A/C controller assembly connector and heated windshield switch connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.
 
STEP 7. Check the heated windshield switch.
Check the heated windshield switch (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 8.
Replace the heated windshield switch (Refer to ).
 
STEP 8. Check of open circuit in IG11 line between heated windshield relay 1 and ETACS-ECU.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 9.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.
 
STEP 9. Check the heated windshield.
Check that the heated windshield works normally (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 11.
Go to Step 10.
 
STEP 10. Check the heated windshield earth point.
Check whether the earth point for the heated windshield is loosened or corroded.
Is the check result normal?
Replace the heated windshield (Refer to GROUP 42A - Window Glass ).
Correct the heated windshield earth.
 
STEP 11. Retest the system
Check that the heated windshield functions work normally.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Proceed to "The right or left side of the heated windshield does not work."
