All Subarus use a cartridge fuel filter, located in the fuel line. The filter is the disposable type which cannot be cleaned. It should be replaced every 12 months/12000 miles (20,000 km) on pre–1980 vehicles and 15 months/15000 miles (25,000 km) whichever occurs first, on 1980 and later vehicles.
