Automatic Transmission Assembly

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2. Open and support front hood.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
  4. Install special tool torque converter clutch case (498277200)
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    CAUTION
    Plug opening to prevent entry of foreign particles into transmission fluid.

  6. Install special tool (41099AA010 and 41099AA020) engine support and bracket.
  7. Remove upper bell housing bolts.
  8. Safely raise and support the vehicle
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:
  10. Place transmission jack under transmission.
  11. Remove or disconnect the following:

    CAUTION
    Move transmission and torque converter as a unit away from engine.

  12. Separate transmission assembly and rear cushion rubber.

To Install:

  1. Install or connect the following:
  2. Raise transmission with transmission jack.
  3. Install or connect the following:
  4. Remove transmission jack.

  5. Install lower Bell housing bolts.
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Remove special tool from torque converter clutch case.

    CAUTION
    Be careful not to drop the ST into the torque converter clutch case when removing (ST 498277200 STOPPER SET). Be careful not to drop bolts into torque converter clutch housing.

  8. Install or connect the following:
  9. Safely raise and support the vehicle.
  10. Install or connect the following:
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Install or connect the following:
  13. Fill ATF up to the middle of the "cold" side on level gauge by using the gauge hole.
  14. Check select lever operation.
  15. Check the ATF level.
  16. Road test the vehicle.
