ABS Control Module and Hydraulic Control Unit (ABSCM&H/U)

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Cautions and Warnings in the beginning of this section.
2. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • The ground terminal from battery
   • The air intake duct from engine compartment to facilitate removal of ABSCM&H/U
3. Using an air gun thoroughly dry the area around the ABSCM&H/U.

   CAUTION
   Contact will be insufficient and may fail if the terminal is exposed to water or other liquids.

4. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • The lock on the ABSCM&H/U connector
   • The connector from ABSCM&H/U

     CAUTION
     Do not to allow water or foreign materials to contact the ABSCM&H/U terminal.

     1. Unlock the cable clip
   • The brake lines from ABSCM&H/U

     CAUTION
     Insert the ends of the brake lines into a vinyl bag, avoid spilling brake fluid on painted surfaces.

   • The ABSCM&H/U from engine compartment

     CAUTION
     The ABSCM&H/U CANNOT BE DISASSEMBLED. Do not attempt to loosen the nuts and bolts, or open the case.

   • Do not drop, bump or strike the ABSCM&H/U unit.
   • Do not turn the ABSCM&H/U upside down or place it on its side.
   • Do not to allow water or foreign materials to contact or get into the ABSCM&H/U unit.
   • Apply a coat of grease (Nippeco LT or GB) to the attachment bracket bolt after it has been tightened.
   • Do not pull on the wire harness when disconnecting the connector.

To Install:

1. Install or connect the following:
   • The ABSCM&H/U bracket
     1. Torque to: 330 kgf-cm, 24 ft. lbs. (33 Nm)
   • The ABSCM&H/U

     CAUTION
     Confirm that the specifications of the ABSCM&H/U conforms to the vehicle specifications.

     1.  Torque to: 13 ft. lbs., 184 kgf-cm, (18 Nm)
   • The brake lines (correctly) to the ABSCM&H/U connections
     1. Torque to:  11 ft-lbs., 153 kgf-cm, (15 Nm)
   • The ABSCM&H/U harness to the bracket, using the cable clip
   • The connector to the ABSCM&H/U

     CAUTION
     Ensure the removal of all foreign materials from the inside of the connector before connecting it.

     Ensure that the ABSCM&H/U connector is securely locked.

   • The air intake duct
2. Bleed air from the brake system.
