EVAP Canister Purge Valve Inspection

Precautions: General safety (00)

WARNING:
Do not use mouth to apply vacuum to EVAP canister purge valve. Fuel vapor is harmful.
Use a hand vacuum pump to apply vacuum.
NOTICE:
If excessive vacuum is applied, the EVAP canister purge valve may be damaged.
Do not exceed a vacuum of –66 kPa (–0.7 kgf/cm2, –9.57 psi, –0.66 bar).
1)With ignition “OFF”, disconnect connector and vacuum hoses from EVAP canister purge valve.
2)Remove EVAP canister purge valve from intake manifold.
3)Check resistance between two terminals of EVAP canister purge valve (1).
If faulty condition is found, replace EVAP canister purge valve.

22 to 26 Ω at 20 °C (68 °F)

4)Check EVAP canister purge valve operation as follows.
If faulty condition is found, replace EVAP canister purge valve.
a)Install special tool and vacuum hose (2) to EVAP canister purge valve (1).

(A): 09917–47011
b)With 12 V battery connected to EVAP canister purge valve terminals, check that vacuum (–60 kPa, –0.6 kgf/cm2, –8.7 psi, –0.6 bar) cannot be applied to EVAP canister purge valve.
c)With no 12 V battery connected to EVAP canister purge valve terminals, check that vacuum (–60 kPa, –0.6 kgf/cm2, –8.7 psi, –0.6 bar) can be applied to EVAP canister purge valve.
