High Pressure Pipe Removal and Installation
Precautions: Precautions for Fuel System Service · General safety (00)
Before performing the following procedure, observe Precautions for Fuel System Service:K14C.
Removal
4)Remove high pressure fuel pump cover.
Installation
NOTICE:
Failure to take proper precautions when installing the high pressure pipe can cause damage to the high pressure pipe and may lead to fuel leakage.
Take the following precautions when removing and installing the high pressure pipe.
•Never reuse high pressure pipe.
•When the union nut is tightened using extension (claw foot) until the torque wrench reads the specified torque, the nut will actually be tightened to a torque much more than the specified torque. This could damage the thread.
•When the union nut is tightened using extension (claw foot) until the torque wrench reads the specified torque, the nut will actually be tightened to a torque much more than the specified torque. This could damage the thread.
Use the formula shown below to determine the correct reading of the torque wrench for its length. Then tighten the union nut of high pressure pipe until the torque wrench indicates the value thus determined.
Tightening torque formula.
M = T x L / (L + “a”)
M: Value indicated on torque wrench
T: Specified tightening torque
L: Effective length of torque wrench
“a”: Effective length of extension
1)Install new high pressure pipe (1) according to the following procedure.
b)Loosen high pressure fuel pump bolts (1), tighten them to 5 N·m (0.5 kgf-m, 4.0 lbf-ft) and then loosen 90 – 120°.
c)Tighten high pressure pipe union nuts (2) by hand until seated and temporarily tighten high pressure pipe bolt (3).
d)Tighten high pressure pipe union nuts (1) to specified torque in numerical order (“1” – “2”) as shown in figure.
e)Tighten high pressure fuel pump bolts (2) to specified torque.
2)Install high pressure fuel pump cover.
