Rear Brake Pad Removal and Installation
Precautions: Precautions for Brakes · General safety (00)
NOTICE:
Failure to take proper precautions during rear brake caliper removal may cause damage to the rear brake flexible hose and/or the brake piston.
•Be careful not to twist the brake flexible hose during brake pad removal.
•Avoid depressing the brake pedal during the brake pad removal procedure to prevent the brake piston from being forced out of the cylinder.
•Avoid depressing the brake pedal during the brake pad removal procedure to prevent the brake piston from being forced out of the cylinder.
NOTE:
•Check for leakage of brake fluid when removing brake pads and repair brake caliper if leakage is found.
•Replace all brake pads at the same time even if only one pad is defective.
•Replace all brake pads at the same time even if only one pad is defective.
Removal
2)Release parking brake.
4)Remove rear brake caliper (1) from rear brake caliper carrier (2).
NOTICE:
If the removed rear brake caliper (1) is left hung by the rear brake flexible hose, the rear brake flexible hose may be damaged due to the tension caused by the caliper’s weight.
Hang a removed rear brake caliper with a wire hook (4) or the like to relieve the rear brake flexible hose of the tension.
Installation
NOTICE:
If the rear brake flexible hose is twisted, the hose will be damaged.
If the hose is twisted, reinstall rear brake caliper being careful not to let rear brake flexible hose get twisted.
1)Install pad springs (1) to rear brake caliper carrier (2) and apply brake grease included in brake pad set to hatched areas “A” of pad springs.
3)Install rear brake pads (1) with brake pad shims to rear brake caliper carrier (2).
4)Turn piston (1) in arrow direction by a quarter to half turn using special tool to screw piston into caliper cylinder.
5)Install rear brake caliper cylinder while aligning slot of piston (2) with protrusion (1) at back of inner brake pad.
6)Install rear brake caliper (1) to rear brake caliper carrier and tighten rear brake caliper pin bolts to specified torque.
7)Depress brake pedal three times or more with engine running to activate pad clearance adjustment mechanism so that clearance between rear brake disc and rear brake pad will become appropriate.
8)Check that brakes are not dragging and that appropriate braking force can be obtained.
